Executive Vice President and Chief Technical Officer
Dr. Malozemoff, acknowledged the world over as a leader in the field of superconductivity, joined American Superconductor in January 1991 following a distinguished career at IBM, where he spent 19 years in a variety of research and management positions.
In his position as Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Malozemoff is responsible for managing all research and development programs in materials science, applied physics, materials processing, and conductor development. Dr. Malozemoff has led the R&D at AMSC, leading to commercial HTS wire technologies. He is also charged with management of American Superconductor's collaborative programs, including the firm's technical consultants, its patent estate, its interaction with the federal High Temperature Superconductivity Technology Centers, its work with university and government laboratories and its collaborative research and development with strategic alliance partners.
Recognized for his pioneering work in the field of superconductivity, Dr. Malozemoff is a co-discoverer of "giant flux creep." This phenomenon is a factor in determining the maximum amount of current a superconductor can carry, and a key element in the development of applications with superconducting materials. He is also well known for his work on magnetic materials and his discoveries related to magnetic bubble technologies.
A California native, Dr. Malozemoff holds a Ph.D. in materials science and engineering from Stanford University and a B.S. degree in physics and chemistry from Harvard University. He is a fellow of the American Physical Society and a senior member of the IEEE and was honored as Superconductor Person of the Year in 2004 and IEEE Distinguished Lecturer on Superconductivity. In January 2008, he was elevated to IEEE Fellow in recognition of his leadership in the development of vortex dynamics of high temperature superconductors.
