Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to end users in all areas of Desktop Administration at American Superconductor.
  • Assist in the administration of corporate desktop environments including definition, audit, and enforcement of system standards and configuration, new hardware and software evaluation and implementation, hardware and software upgrades, systems monitoring, upgrade analysis, problem-solving, and software licensing.
  • Originate, plan, validate and execute all phases of Desktop Administration projects including definition, execution, review, communication and documentation.
  • Research, recommend, and assist in the implementation of key technological and procedural decisions geared towards improving our employees' productivity and computing experience.
  • Utilize extensive knowledge and experience to suggest ways to automate and/or improve corporate environment hardware and software deployment and upgrades.
  • Represent the interests of IT in interactions with other departments within AMSC for a variety of projects and day to day service requests.
  • Assist in the creation, enforcement and maintenance of policies and procedures, including an end user service level agreement (SLA).
  • Work during non-business hours as required (typically scheduled in advance).
  • Performs other duties, as assigned and directed.
  • Adheres to all Copyright Clearance Center policies, procedures, and standards, both administrative and technical.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of related experience in an IT Help Desk / Desktop Administration role focusing on Microsoft desktops (Windows XP, Outlook, Office, IE, etc…).
  • 3+ years of experience with IT Help Desk / Desktop Administration projects within a demanding, 7x24, business critical IT environment.
  • Positive can-do attitude. Customer service oriented. Team player.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on technical, computer related subject matter, i.e., technical documentation, checklists, company / departmental communications, projects, and detailed and accurate issue descriptions and resolutions.
  • Be able to work individually in an unsupervised environment. Work in a close team environment. Guides and advises less experienced Desktop Support Analysts. May act as lead for small technology upgrade projects.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and handle the demands of multiple constituencies and exhibit strong organizational qualities in all aspects of work.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of issues inherent to Microsoft desktop application software including, but not limited to:
    • Licensing and compliance per defined policies.
  • Deployment and upgrading software via software distribution tool
    • SMS
    • Xeox
    • Ghost
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of issues inherent to Dell hardware including, but not limited to:
    • Model and feature set selection.
    • Imaging and deployment.
    • Upgrades and enhancements.
    • Remote administration tools.

Education

  • BS in IT related field or equivalent experience.
  • Certifications in Microsoft Operating Systems, Dell Hardware are desired but not necessary
