Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Works directly with program managers and selected customers to develop product specifications.
- Design and develop power electronics based products, perform research, simulations, and design of experiments to prove out product.
- Be involved in the compilation of project schedules, task and project completion time estimates, development budgets, specifications, test plans, equipment purchases, release of related documentation, and other duties as assigned.
- Design and develop Analog, Digital and Power interface circuits.
- Perform or oversee the analysis of project costs with regard to buy-in products and material.
- Execute prototype and detailed designs from the sub-assembly to system level individually and as part of a cross-functional team and assist in pre-pilot releases for new products.
- Maintain a proactive posture towards hardware reusability and quality. Be involved in departmental and personal quality and regulatory programs.
- Provide input to the performance reviews of entry, and mid and senior level engineers, engineering assistants, and designers.
- Be involved in continuing engineering maintenance and manufacturing floor support of existing products.
- Participate in the test, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and root cause analysis of sub-assembly and system-level problems.
- Generate recovery plans and corrective action. Train field service and test department personnel on major project components.
- Review and analyze competitor product literature and patent activity against the company’s intellectual property and trade secrets.
- Proactively define and suggest improvements to the design engineering environment as well as areas unrelated to engineering.

- Has authority to lead project development groups.
- Has authority to establish engineering specifications for products, procedures and processes.
- Has authority to propose process improvements to departmental managers.
- Has authority to obtain material from internal stock room and obtain material from outside vendors through purchase requisitions.
- Has authority to propose capital equipment purchases to departmental.
- Has authority to recommend product vendor sources for equipment or material to Purchasing Department.
- Has authority to choose best methods to design, build and test prototype hardware.
- Has authority to make changes to released drawings.
- Has authority to recommend changes to functional and test specifications for projects.
- Has authority to assign tasks to engineering assistants, designers and engineers and monitor progress in conjunction with project goals.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
|
EDUCATION: B.S., M.S., or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering.
EXPERIENCE: 10-18 years in practical design engineering in power electrical field via industrial, utility, government service or military. Advanced degree MAY be substituted for experience, where applicable.

- Prior experience performing electrical power systems analysis, electrical power systems product development, applications engineering, and/or field service background. Broad industry experience is desired.

- Knowledge and experience with complex systems involving multiple interrelated engineering disciplines (e.g. electrical, thermal, mechanical, software, etc.).
- Experience with circuit and system modeling tools such as VisSim, Spice, Simplorer, Simulink, and to a lesser extent PSCad
- Computer literate in Microsoft’s Word, Excel, and Power Point.
- Capable of writing reports, technical papers, and responding to request for proposals.
- Familiar with relevant standards is required including: national electric, NEC codes, NEMA

- Customer and utility interface and interaction with engineering and management to determine customer requirements, product specifications, technology trends and to resolve engineering issues on a weekly basis.
- Written and oral communications with marketing, applications, engineering, manufacturing, service, and department directors to define and modify product or process specifications.
- Written and oral presentation of project schedule and status to engineering or project managers on, at least, a monthly basis.
- Written and oral communication with customers or potential customers at the level and frequency determined by engineering, project managers, or at the request of Marketing or Sales.
- Provide technical leadership through guidance and training to engineers at all levels through daily communications.
