The Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. The position requires a strong background in manufacturing practices with experience in material science and fabrication operations. Will work with, and lead, cross functional teams to maintain high volume, quality and throughput of superconducting wire.
Develop and update specific practices and procedures to implement a standard manufacturing process throughout the superconducting wire process. Provides hands-on assistance and coordination for a robust operation.
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for yield improvement which includes review of production data to identify trends and areas for consistent improvement; conduct probe/final inspections on low performing batches; identifies product yield or yield related projects; identifies and solves device related problems; reviews internal customer returns, identifies problem and makes recommendations for corrective action.
The successful individual will approve any modifications to production equipment or processes in order to ensure that the equipment and instruction sets are suitable for use by line technicians. The Manufacturing Engineer will develop and improve quality system documents such as shop floor routings, operating instructions and preventive maintenance instructions. May lead and direct the work of others.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provides manufacturing engineering support for existing processes using lean manufacturing, six sigma, and 8D practices.
- Maintains Statistical Process Controls and charting of process.
- Performs FMEA and root cause analysis.
- Initiates equipment modifications to improve productivity and product quality.
- Work closely together with maintenance department to improve equipment and machinery reliability/reduce downtime.
- Conceives and implements cost reduction and quality improvements.
Requirements:
- BS degree plus 5 to 8 years of demonstrated relevant experience in manufacturing techniques and systems.
- Strong knowledge of material science and fabrication techniques..
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing techniques
- Strong understanding of quality improvement techniques, such as statistical process control and process mapping
- Self-starter and independent working attributes are essential
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Experience with MS Office software, including Excel, Word and Project
- Team player
