Insulated HTS Wire

Carrying power through extreme conditions

When high current density is critical to HTS wire applications, American Superconductor offers HTS wire insulated with Kapton® polyimide film (type H). Kapton spiral-wrapped adhesive insulation has excellent physical , electrical and mechanical properties:

  • Spiral wrap provides uniform coverall with minimum thickness build-up
  • Superb durability with excellent cut-through resistance, yet easy to remove
  • Multi-layer option to tailor voltage withstand to the needs of the application
  • Adhesive system ensures reliability in demanding applications
  • Proven in cryogenic environments to near –273ºC
  • High tolerance to UV and nuclear radiation
  • Readily insulates over splices and joints
  • Easily field-applied and replaced over joints and termination zones
