HTS Magnets

Bigger power from a smaller package

As a component of high-field magnets, AMSC’s HTS wire delivers significant advantages over not only copper wire, but also old-style LTS (low temperature superconductor) wire.

Compared with copper-wire magnets:

HTS magnets generate higher magnetic fields using less space. HTS magnets require a significantly smaller volume of HTS wire. Plus, they eliminate the need for the water-cooling systems that copper-wire magnets require.

HTS magnets weigh far less. As a result, they are more mobile and allow more productive use of their surrounding space.

HTS magnets cost less to operate. They require less power to operate and do not require water- cooling and conditioning systems.

Compared with LTS magnets:

HTS magnets achieve higher magnetic fields. HTS wire surpasses LTS wire for enhanced irreversibility field performance.

HTS magnets are more stable and offer greater thermal headroom. Thanks to their higher tolerance to thermal spikes and cryocooler degradation, they provide enhanced reliability, flexibility and uptime for users.

HTS magnets can cost much less. Their cryogenic system is less complex, which simplifies system design and lowers manufacturing costs.
