PowerModule™ PM1000
Configurable Power Converter

The PowerModule™ PM1000 power converter family features a scalable, modular and flexible architecture. This fully integrated, intelligent power converter includes a dual-DSP embedded controller a compact package design that yields a very high power density of up to 130 W/in.3 (8 W/cm3).

The PM1000 can be configured through software application modules, is self-powered from the DC bus and can be used in series and/or parallel operation.

Communications between a PM1000 and remote devices or controllers are handled through a fiber-optic link that provides galvanic isolation and high noise immunity.

The PM1000 is a fully programmable, flexible and modular power converter platform that you can utilize across multiple applications — and thereby reduces time to market.

Product Applications

PM1000 converters can be quickly and easily configured to address a wide range
of sectors including:

  • Distributed generation (wind, fuel cell, hydro, solar, gen-sets,
    micro-turbines)
  • Transportation (marine, electric vehicle, diesel electric)
  • Energy storage (battery, flywheel)
  • Motor control (custom drives, active front end)

Using PowerModule power converters greatly reduces product development time and the cost of developing your own power conversion systems.

American Superconductor developed the PM1000 as a modular design with standard cell building blocks (also known as Power Electronic Building Block - PEBB), that can be quickly configured to meet different application needs from both the hardware and software viewpoints. This combines the advantages of a proven power converter platform with the ability to rapidly develop a custom configuration.
