Manages activities through first or second (Dir) level managers. This position is responsible for the effective operation of Engineering activities of major significance to the organization, while ensuring that budgets, schedules, and performance standards are realistically set and obtained. This position requires a strong background and experience in mechanical design and the creation of mechanical and electrical specifications. Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:

Functions:

  • Perform site surveys as requested by Project Managers and Applications Engineers.
  • Perform site Power Quality testing and prepare reports for external clients or internal AMSC Sales and Marketing Department.
  • Perform failure analysis and root cause studies of premature component failures and formulate the actions necessary to match component reliability.
  • Perform on-site commissioning of D-VAR, PQ-SVC systems and inverter components and control electronics for domestic and international customers.
  • Train customer in operating and maintenance practices as appropriate for system type
  • Assist Engineering. & Manufacturing with factory testing of new units.
  • Assist Sales & Marketing team with the new product development process. Present FS suggestions to corporate, based on knowledge of system operations at customer sites to improve product or reduce costs.
  • Responsible for modifying documentation pertaining to each customer unit including schematics, user manuals, safety practices, etc, to reflect actual site/installation conditions.
  • Ability to specify, review, and implement specialized maintenance procedures for field installations.

  • Monitor customer units using the DAS (Database Acquisition System) and remote monitoring systems as Predictive Maintenance tools to foresee problems and develop solutions before they affect the customer.   Interact with customer representative to solve problems that need to be handled remotely. As necessary, travel to the customer site to maintain high reliability.
  • Provide written communications regarding customer units. Produce, distribute, and maintain files containing service reports after each on-site visit. Maintain files and write monthly reports for each unit detailing carryovers. Produce and distribute weekly reports to ASC management on current field service activities.
  • World wide travel required. Travel time anticipated at least 50%.
  • Ability to oversee and perform trend analysis of the field service database.
  • Ability to carry a Field Service pager 25% the time.
  • Maintain inventory levels of parts.
  • Schedule routine maintenance with customer.
  • Schedule startup/commissioning activities to maintain product delivery commitments.

Education – Experience:

  • Engineering degree in a technical field. Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • 5-7 year’s experience in an electrical power, electronics environment, and communication systems. Experience can be substituted for educational requirements.

Support Gridtec Solutions™ by conducting power system studies and modeling related to the AMSC® STATCOM products using load flow, transient stability and electromagnetic transient simulation tools.

Functions:

  • Undertakes detailed application and design studies for AMSC®’s products including FACTS systems, power electronic converters, energy storage solutions, fault current limiters and high capacity superconductor cable systems
  • Uses network analysis software to perform detailed load flow, transient stability and electromagnetic transient studies in assessing system requirements and appropriate solution options (using either current or innovative new technologies)
  • Performs power systems analyses pertaining to renewable energy integration, transmission and distribution system expansion, voltage stability, and reliability and power quality
  • Performs detailed analyses of industrial power quality problems and designs/recommends appropriate solutions
  • Develops and maintains software models for all STATCOM products
  • Performs or supports insulation coordination, arc flash and transient overvoltage studies

  • Demonstrated knowledge of transient stability simulation tools (preferably PSS®E, GE PSLF or DIgSILENT PowerFactory)
  • Experience with electromagnetic transients simulation tools (preferably PSCAD or EMTP-RV)

Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:

AMSC is seeking a talented Senior Vacuum Technician to join the Advanced Technology Group. The right candidate will be an enthusiastic professional with experience in the high vacuum and cryogenics. The candidate will be working among a team of engineers and technicians to assist in the design, assembly and testing of concepts and engineering demonstrations of systems for High Temperature Superconducting applications. The candidate will support manufacturing and testing, process development, prototype fabrication and process documentation for expansion into low and medium volume production. The candidate should be comfortable working collaboratively with team members from multiple functions as well as on their own with minimum instructions.

Functions:

  • Experiment/prototype system assembly, test and evaluation of results
  • Evaluation and troubleshooting of system performance
  • Vacuum leak detecting
  • Field Service/Demonstration support of vacuum and cryogenic systems
  • Testing process development, prototype fabrication and process documentation
  • Additional Responsibilities include providing cryogenic and vacuum consultation and support in the group and throughout the entire organization, such as:

Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:

The Cost Accounting Manager will be responsible for the management, development, analysis and reporting of standard costing. This individual will be a key contributor providing high level analysis of product costs, operations and margins. This role will report to the Director of Finance.

Functions:

  • Establish and maintain standard costs for all raw materials, WIP and finished goods.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure Bills of Materials (BOM) are accurate and up to date. Review and audit Bills of Material to ensure they reflect the latest manufacturing practices. Research and provide insight on variances including labor, yields, material usage, overhead and absorption
  • Proactively analyze manufacturing costs (material, operations costs, yield and fixed costs) and advocate changes
  • Prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs and variance reporting
  • Provide monthly cost and margin analysis for management
  • Product line reporting and analysis
  • Ad hoc projects
  • Reconcile general ledger inventory accounts to perpetual inventory reports on a monthly basis
  • Perform various month end reports, journal entries, and reconciliations
  • Assist with audits and other compliance related activities
  • Assist with the annual budget and quarterly forecasts relating to cost of goods sold and margins.
  • Work directly with various departments in a consultative role in identifying process improvements and manufacturing efficiencies
  • Reconcile general ledger inventory accounts to perpetual inventory reports on a monthly basis.
  • Coordinate with Manufacturing and Engineering to analyze inventory quantities and establish reserves for excess and obsolete items based on production and sales volumes
  • Coordinate with operations to evaluate inventory controls and monitor daily cycle counts to verify accuracy of inventory balances
  • Analyze actual labor, material, and overhead cost against Standard/Budget. Research and explain variances.
  • Ensure that the inventory cycle has adequate internal controls, that they are operating effectively and that we maintain compliance with our SOX controls and inventory accounting policies

Education – Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; prefer concentrations in business/finance/accounting. MBA is a plus CPA, CMA or CCA preferred
  • Solid understanding of cost accounting MRP Systems, Oracle experience required.
  • 10+ years of accounting experience, with at least 5 years hands-on experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing setting
