Position Summary: Under the direction of Director of Operations, the Test Manager will manage the daily activities of all Test Technicians to test units. This includes transformers, control components, and circuits to comply with Neeltran and industry standards and customers’ requirements.  The Test Manager is directly responsible for ensuring that all Test personnel always adhere to proper safety practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize and execute test activities to meet production and shipment schedules, including handling test schedules, labor budgets, reporting, and requirements.
  • Anticipate test needs for set-up and special equipment for upcoming jobs.
  • Effectively and efficiently set-up test equipment for department based on input AC HV and/or DC outputs.
  • Supervise and as required, perform transformer tests including, but not limited to, turns ratio, resistance/impedance & phase rotation, loss measurements, power factor tests & calculations, etc.  These tests are required at multiple hold-points throughout transformer assembly & final test.
  • Supervisor and, as required, perform applicable HV tests including, but not limited to, impulse/BIL, Hi-Pot, Partial Discharge, etc.).
  • Take oil samples and perform in-house di-electric and gas samples.  Where applicable, utilize outside/3rd-party resources for these tests.
  • Verify test reports are done accurately and completely.  Ensure that Test provides a quality product, and that equipment is used properly while maintaining accuracy, quality and efficiency. 
  • Conduct and document on test forms and reports operational and performance tests on large, industrial-duty high power DC power supplies, electrical, electromechanical products, controls, and systems applying principles and techniques of electrical engineering.
  • Ensure test data is transferred to QC for record keeping.
  • Provide technical support to customers, engineering, and certification (Quality) to meet objectives and resolve issues via telephone, e-mail, conference calls, and meetings.
  • Review and approve test plans for power-electronic based systems; prepare product and equipment for test; execute test plans; gather, compile, and summarize data; generate test reports and results.
  • Troubleshoot and repair transformer and power supply products as required.
  • Construct test equipment according to specified requirements.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production test equipment. Ensure equipment meets ISP calibration policy.
  • Provide recommendations and documentation to product designers on design improvement.
  • Train engineers, field service technicians and new hires in product testing, operation of test equipment, and testing safety.
  • Work with outside subcontractors as required to set up test environments for AMSC product.
  • Make decisions regarding safety, quality, and environmental policies.
  • Take lead in Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) activities with Manufacturing and Engineering.
  • Direct manufacturing personnel regarding product quality issues.
  • Recommend tools, test equipment and safety supplies and initiate requisition for purchase.

  • Safety:
    • Ensure that all test personnel are working safely in test area, adhering to lock-out/tag-out and other safety procedures. In the absence of the Test Department Team Leaders, conduct a daily walk-through of the Test Department to eliminate any safety hazards. Document that the walk through was done, note any findings and resolve issues.
    • Organize and conduct annual electrical safety training with assistance from Test Department Team Leaders.
  • Personnel Management:
    • Assess performance of direct reports by completing 90-day and annual performance reviews in a timely manner.
    • Monitor performance of direct reports, including absenteeism.
    • Resolve employee issues using effective problem-solving strategies. 
    • Complete administrative activities such as signing off on timecards with overtime, labor cards, and filing out absence requests.

Education – Experience:

  • Master’s degree preferred or bachelor’s required in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 5-7 years of experience in testing and troubleshooting large industrial power supplies. Power lines, control systems and sub stationing a plus.
  • 5-8 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing or R&D environments.

Enforce and Maintain the Neeltran Quality System to ISO/IEC 17025 & 9001. This includes all creating, revising, tracking and organizing all documentation, forms, procedures and work instructions. Keep work instructions and forms simple and consistent. Institute changes when needed to bring us into compliance. Document quality procedures, processes, workflow, tools, equipment and solutions for the company. Delegate tasks to Quality Engineer and QC Inspectors. Make sure QC Inspectors are spending the majority of their time on the shop floor to identify issues and train production to ensure quality procedures are being utilized correctly. Assist in meeting on-time shipments by resolving quality issues in a timely manner. Help lower costs by reducing re-work. Continually develop design guide to resolve recurring issues and document new ones. Inform supervisors related to the new design guide documents so they can inform their workers. 

Functions:

  • Establish procedures/controls to ISO/IEC standards. These procedures are to show the flow of Neeltran’s product lines and controls of operations from start to finish. 
  • Develop a working knowledge of the standards related to certified products and reports, including which documentation to the authorized agencies is required. These agencies are IEC, CSA, ATEX, UL ANSI, etc. 
  • Communicate on a daily basis with Engineering, Operations, Test, Planning, Purchasing, and Customer Service departments.  Split time between shop floor and office to identify address and correct issues.

Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:

The Power Supply Mechanical Design Supervisor will perform mechanical design and supervise a team of mechanical designers for high power rectifiers and power supply products.  

The supervisor will lead and guide the team to mechanically design power supply products on time and within budget, while following the customer specifications, industry standards and direction from the electrical and project engineers.The supervisor will also have direct design responsibilities using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD software programs (and Vault) to design the mechanical envelope and system layouts for rectifiers and power supplies. 

Functions:

  • Will need leading-edge knowledge of all mechanical design aspects of high-power Industrial Power Supplies and rectifier topologies in applications from 5kAdc to 100kAdc, including  enclosures, rectifier power section, controls section, plumbing section, AC and DC bus bars and supports.
  • Ability to effectively lead a team of mechanical designers in support of company objectives, including but not limited to budget hours, budget material costs, and schedules.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate reporting of project status into the MRP system and to the engineering manager.
  • Use Autodesk Inventor 3D (and 2D) programs to create customer and manufacturing documentation, including bills of materials, part and component models, detail drawings, assembly drawings, schematics, flow diagrams, piping assemblies, outline drawings and installation drawings.

  • Review all commercial and technical bid documents and make clarifications / exceptions as required to ensure that risk factors have been addressed and the scope of supply is clearly defined.

AMSC has an opening for a Process Engineer for the manufacturing of oxide-coated metal foils for high temperature superconductor wire. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for sustaining routine production, troubleshooting when processes fail to meet their intended specifications as well as process improvement. Troubleshooting and process improvement activities require establishing process relationships between complex equipment settings and product performance. Such efforts will require significant problem solving skills based on a high degree of experience working with vacuum deposition systems, pressure monitoring, heat zones, and mass/liquid flow controllers, in addition to excellent analytical abilities. Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating all aspects necessary for successful process operation including raw materials, gases and equipment. He/she will work in close collaboration with a small team of engineers and scientists and must be able to effectively work on a number of simultaneous tasks within a fast paced environment. The successful candidate should have hands-on experience running thin film deposition processes, as well as knowledge of manufacturing techniques for metal deformation and annealing.

Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:

AMSC has an opening for a technician to carry out daily maintenance of thin and thick film manufacturing equipment.  The role will require routine cleaning of the internals of deposition systems and machine components using sanding, grinding and other hand tools.  The successful candidate will be capable of following standard procedures and work as part of an equipment engineering group maintaining production equipment.  

Functions:

Day to day activities consist of preparing various physical vapor deposition (PVD) equipment for production runs including:

  • Disassembly and reassembly of shields and framework.
  • Lightly sanding and cleaning of all internal surfaces.
  • Cleaning and preparing components off-line for installation.
  • Mechanically adjusting sensors.
  • Maintaining a spotless, organized work area
  • Assist with more general equipment maintenance when needed. 

Education – Experience:

  • Minimum 0-2 years of demonstrated relevant manufacturing experience.

Required Skills, Competencies, Authorities and Training Needs:

  • Must have basic experience in maintaining equipment.
  • Must have good mechanical skills with the ability to operate basic power tools.
  • Knowledge of machine shop tools i.e. lathe, drill press, milling machine, and band saw would be a plus.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail and follow instructions.
  • Capability to work independently is essential.

Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:

The Project Manager is responsible for managing the delivery and execution of all assigned FACTS projects and regular reporting. The ideal candidate is very familiar with Power Systems equipment and substation installation works and requirements. 

Required Functions:

  • Responsible for oversight of multiple assigned projects, including turnkey projects for delivery and installation of STATCOM systems at Utility substations.
  • Interface to sales and marketing for reviewing specifications and evaluating customer requirements to ensure successful delivery of the projects per the contract.
  • Interface with customers to coordinate and schedule concurrent development activities and manage the project execution as well as financial milestones and objectives.
  • Interface with vendors and subcontractors to manage the flow of information, schedule, and deliverables.

  • Provide weekly, monthly and as required project updates and reports to Management team.

Functions:

  • Lead the efforts to develop, maintain, and deploy quality plans and activities that translate customer requirements into planned activities  
  • Responsible for driving process and product improvement initiatives across multiple functional disciplines
  • Perform analyses of program requirements and prepare responsive quality plans, procedures, schedules and resource allocations to assure optimum quality support
  • Review and approve engineering/test and supplier documentation and provide input to assure that appropriate quality requirements are addressed

The types of equipment are as follows:  gas / vacuum control and handling equipment, cryogenic equipment, and various equipment used in the production of SPS products. Knowledge of vacuum systems and related vacuum components is required.

Functions:

  • Knowledge of machine assembly, vacuum, component level troubleshooting and wiring required.
  • Day-to-day activities of this position include set up and breakdown of systems/product, preventive maintenance, unplanned maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment/product issues.
  • Must be able to follow written policies, procedures, and/or work instructions to complete critical vacuum processing, leak check, and critical measurement activities.
  • Long-term projects include equipment upgrades and implementation.

Fabricate, assemble, and repair sheet steel and structural steel assemblies.

Functions:

  • Selects gauge and type of sheet metal according to drawings provided
  • Read specifications, blueprints, and job orders as required for proper assembly.
  • Cut, bend, grind, trim, notch, punch, de-burr, clean, and weld sheet steel and structural steel using appropriate machines and hand tools.
  • Plan, lay-out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal parts, products and equipment, utilizing knowledge of working characteristics of metallic and non-metallic materials, machining and lay-out techniques, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Select gauge and type of sheet metal such as galvanized, stainless, or other in accordance with requirements.
  • Layout and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials, using scribers, dividers, squares, and rulers, applying knowledge of shop mathematics and lay-out techniques to develop and trace patterns.
